Quang Ninh to host lantern parade and fireworks show for Mid-Autumn festival

A large-scale lantern parade, featuring lion and dragon dances, traditional Mid-Autumn treats, and an artistic fireworks display, will take place along the coastal road on the evening of 25/9.

The lantern parade event is scheduled for 19h30 on 25/9, which is the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. It is expected to pass through major routes including Ky Quan coastal road, Ha Long road, the VUI-Fest Ha Long area, and Sun Elite City in Bai Chay ward. This marks the second consecutive year Sun Group has organized this program to serve local residents and tourists during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The highlight of the festival night is the lantern vehicle parade, following a route from Ky Quan coastal road, through the Bai Chay roundabout, and returning along the bay-side road. Organizers will use buggy cars and specialized trucks to carry giant lantern models, forming a long procession of lights along the coastal street. In addition to familiar folk figures such as lions, dragons, carp, lotus flowers, phoenixes, and turtles, this year's parade will include the characters Thanh Giong and Tho Ngoc.

Joining the parade are lion and dragon dance teams, dancers, and groups of entertainers. Throughout the journey, artists will perform traditional dances to the rhythm of festival drums, interacting with residents and tourists along the streets. The combination of rhythmic drum sounds, lighting effects from the models, and street interactions creates a festive atmosphere along the heritage bay.

After completing its route through the main roads, the vehicle procession will gather at the Bai Chay Lighthouse area. There, the organizers will continue the program with a traditional Mid-Autumn feast, featuring mooncakes, sticky rice cakes, and a five-fruit tray. Tourists and children can experience the custom of welcoming the full moon, participate in interactive games, and enjoy local cuisine.

The program will conclude with a high-altitude artistic fireworks display, expected to last about 10 minutes over the Bai Chay sky.

In recent years, Quang Ninh has expanded its cultural and nighttime tourism products to meet the entertainment needs of residents and attract overnight visitors. The integration of traditional Mid-Autumn symbols into a street carnival parade and fireworks display is expected to diversify experiences for tourists in Bai Chay, while providing a meaningful community gathering space during the festive season.
