According to the 2025 Air Connectivity Index (ACI) report, published by the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East on 7/9, three Vietnamese airports have demonstrated significant improvements in connectivity across various operational size segments.
Noi Bai in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City were recognized in the segment serving 25-40 million passengers annually. Da Nang Airport led its segment, catering to 5-15 million passengers.
The inclusion of these three airports in the notable connectivity improvement group highlights the growing importance of Vietnam's air gateways within the regional network. These airports connect major domestic economic and tourism centers with numerous international destinations, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
The ACI constructs its Air Connectivity Index by evaluating network size, frequency, and the economic importance of destinations. It also assesses connection quality based on aircraft type, domestic and international routes, the number of transit stops, and airline alliance participation.

The report indicates that air connectivity in Asia-Pacific increased by 10% in 2025. This figure is lower than the 14% growth recorded in 2024, reflecting a transition from a strong post-pandemic recovery phase to more stable growth.
Among the 315 airports evaluated, 74% experienced increased connectivity in 2025. Hub airports continued to lead this growth, with 83-97% of large airports reporting expansion. This was driven by expanding airline networks and sustained positive international travel demand.
In 2025, intra-regional passenger traffic accounted for 91% of total departures in Asia-Pacific, marking a 5% increase from 2024. Intercontinental traffic originating from the region grew by 7%.
Beyond capacity expansion, airports are advised to efficiently utilize existing infrastructure, enhance reliability, improve the passenger experience, and increase investment in infrastructure and technology.
In Vietnam, the rising demand for international connectivity necessitates long-term enhancements in airport capacity and operational quality. Long Thanh Airport is expected to commence operations in late 2026. Once operational, it is anticipated to significantly boost operational capacity, expand Vietnam's international air connectivity, and meet future transport demands.
