Running helps shape Da Nang's lifestyle

Besides infrastructure, security, and environment, running and sports tourism enhance the image of a livable city, according to the chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association.

In July, as VnExpress Marathon Da Nang 2025 approaches, many coastal roads and downtown areas become more vibrant with running clubs and groups training every morning, preparing for race day.

According to Cao Tri Dung, chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, in recent years, the Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, and Bach Dang streets, and the Rong Bridge have frequently seen groups of residents and tourists running. "Running is not just exercise, but has become a daily habit, contributing to a healthy urban lifestyle," Dung emphasized.

In Da Nang, running events such as VnExpress Marathon, Ironman 70.3, and the Da Nang International Marathon attract thousands of athletes, along with their friends and families, increasing revenue for accommodation, dining, and tourism services.

"When a large-scale race like VnExpress Marathon gathers up to 11,000 athletes, along with tens of thousands of relatives and family members, its impact goes far beyond mere economic figures. This is not only a boost for the accommodation, food and beverage industries, but also creates a strong ripple effect in the community," Dung emphasized.

According to Dung, Da Nang has twice been recognized as Asia's leading festival and event destination. Maintaining and developing events like VnExpress Marathon helps the city maintain its position among localities capable of hosting large-scale events.

From a broader perspective, he assessed that the habit of running is contributing to shaping a "new rhythm of life" in the city by the Han River, creating new cultural values. Not only widespread among the local community, this movement has also been observed among international residents living in Da Nang – a group that accounts for an increasing proportion of long-stay visitors.

"The city has attracted residents from other provinces and countries to live, work, and enjoy characteristic values such as fresh air, modern infrastructure, diverse services, and a safe and friendly environment. When combined with physical activities that enhance fitness and meet individualization trends like running, the 'livable' values are elevated to a new level," the chairman of the tourism association said.

According to him, Da Nang has coastal, bridge, riverside, and hillside running routes, suitable for various distances and forms of experience. The infrastructure system, hotels, transportation, and support services are well-equipped to welcome tourists to the city under the sports tourism model.

Dung believes this is the time for the city to refresh its image through new products, targeting specific customer segments, especially young people who tend to choose tourism associated with personal experiences.

"We are focusing on product innovation, increasing personalization, enhancing real-life experiences, and extending the length of stay. Sports tourism is one of the directions that aligns with that development orientation," he said.
