The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards ceremony took place in Turin, Italy, on the evening of 19/6. Maido, located in Lima, Peru, claimed the top spot, while Kjolle secured the 9th position.
The World's 50 Best Restaurants is an annual award presented by UK-based media company William Reed. Launched in 2002, the award is considered the "Oscars of fine dining" and holds significant prestige in the travel and hospitality industry.
Last year, Maido ranked 5th on the list. Founded and run by chef Mitsuharu "Micha" Tsumura, the restaurant is renowned for its Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of traditional Japanese culinary techniques and Peruvian ingredients. With two restaurants in the top 10, Lima is becoming a prime destination for discerning food lovers.

While no European restaurant claimed the top spot, Europe dominated the list with nearly 20 entries. Asia followed with 15 restaurants from the UAE, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and China.
Bangkok made a strong showing with six restaurants in the top 50, led by Gaggan at number 6. Tokyo's Sezanne ranked 7th. Bangkok newcomer Potong debuted impressively at 13. Opened by chef Pichaya "Pam" Soontornyanakij in Chinatown, Potong offers a blend of Thai and Chinese cuisine in a five-story building that once housed a traditional Chinese medicine shop. The restaurant has already earned a Michelin star and a devoted following. The sole U.S. representative, Atomix (New York), ranked 12th.
Another notable entry was Ikoyi (London, UK), which jumped 27 places from last year to reach 15th. Known for its "borderless cuisine" inspired by sub-Saharan Africa, Ikoyi received the "One to Watch" award in 2021.

The World's 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled by over 1,100 international culinary experts, including chefs and food critics from 28 regions. A restaurant can only hold the number one spot once. Afterward, it joins the "Best of the Best" program, making way for other restaurants to claim the top title.
Members of the "Best of the Best" include Geranium and Noma (Copenhagen), Eleven Madison Park (New York), The Fat Duck (UK), Osteria Francescana (Italy), Mirazur (France), and Central (Peru). Last year's winner, Disfrutar (Barcelona), has also joined this elite group.
