General Secretary and President To Lam met with Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists in Australia on 10/8, urging them to act as a crucial link for technology transfer and the development of "new productive forces" for Vietnam. The meeting occurred during his state visit to Australia from 9-12/8, at the invitation of Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

During the meeting, the General Secretary and President encouraged the intellectuals and scientists to leverage their professional experience and deep understanding of Vietnam's realities. He asked them to propose ideas and recommendations to address significant national challenges.

He also tasked them with introducing Australian partners strong in areas such as education, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and strategic minerals to Vietnamese agencies and research institutes. This initiative aims to foster their role as a bridge for technology transfer and the advancement of "new productive forces".

General Secretary and President To Lam further urged the intellectuals to continue mentoring young generations and Vietnamese students abroad. He emphasized strengthening community ties and deepening the substantive relationship between Vietnam and Australia. These efforts are expected to disseminate scientific thinking and innovative methodologies, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources within Vietnam.

Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists in Australia, in turn, proposed policies to attract talent to work domestically, draw international capital, and develop innovation and startup ecosystems. In response, General Secretary and President To Lam called on relevant ministries and agencies to synthesize, research, and coordinate closely with the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals, Scientists, and Experts in Australia (VASEA) to achieve concrete, quality outcomes.

This state visit marked General Secretary and President To Lam's first trip to Australia in his new capacity. It was also the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader since the two nations elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 3/2024.
