"We are handling the issue in a measured, quiet way and are negotiating with them on a limited basis. We are still monitoring Iran; they are facing high inflation and have virtually run out of funds," US President Donald Trump said in a brief interview with Axios on August 9.
Axios reported that Trump appeared unperturbed by Iran's delay in an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran had previously demanded that Washington lift its blockade of the country's seaports and remove oil sanctions, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries in June.

President Trump also noted that oil prices are declining, which will ease pressure on US consumers from the conflict, asserting that "everything will work out."
"Everything always has a solution. It's like a chess game," he remarked regarding the US approach to Iran.
AFP observed that the US President's actions indicate his readiness to use economic pressure against Iran, rather than ordering further military attacks, even in the face of Iran's firm stance.
Trump has recently made several moves to de-escalate the conflict with Iran, repeatedly claiming that both sides are "close to a deal." On August 1, President Trump warned that the US military was ready to attack Iran "at a level not seen since World War II," but later announced the cancellation of the plan to allow more time to reach a "complete agreement."
