During a meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington DC on 19/2, General Secretary To Lam welcomed the positive outcomes achieved in the negotiations for a reciprocal, fair, and balanced Vietnam-US trade agreement.
General Secretary To Lam lauded the role of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the personal interest and support from Greer for the negotiation process. The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnamese agencies will continue to coordinate closely with the US side to enable both parties to finalize the agreement soon.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer indicated that the negotiation process has made significant progress and is entering a decisive phase. He praised the proactive and positive efforts of the Vietnamese negotiating delegation, stating that both USTR and he personally would continue to work closely with Vietnamese agencies, ministries, and sectors, making every effort to conclude the negotiations swiftly.

Greer emphasized Vietnam's status as one of the United States' important trade partners. He highlighted that strengthening bilateral economic and trade cooperation would contribute positively to the overall development of relations between the two countries.
General Secretary To Lam commended the achievements in cooperation across various sectors between the two nations. He expressed a desire for both sides to further advance their relationship, bringing practical benefits to both countries and their peoples, and contributing to peace, stability, development, and prosperity for the region and the world. The General Secretary also conveyed his hope that President Donald Trump and US businesses would attend the APEC Senior Officials' Week in Vietnam in 2027.
On the same day, General Secretary To Lam also held meetings and discussions with several heads of state and government, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka. These meetings occurred on the occasion of their attendance at the Inaugural Meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza.
During these discussions, the leaders acknowledged Vietnam's increasing role and standing on the international stage. They expressed admiration for Vietnam's development across various aspects, particularly its socioeconomic progress and recent reforms and innovations.
All partners agreed to enhance substantive and effective bilateral relations with Vietnam. They prioritized areas of mutual advantage and need, such as economics, trade, science and technology, digital transformation, green transition, and transport, along with cooperation to address global issues.
The leaders underscored the need for increased coordination within important multilateral mechanisms and forums. They committed to sharing perspectives and positions on prominent regional and international issues of common concern. Furthermore, the leaders agreed to collaborate on implementing the Gaza Peace Plan to foster lasting peace in the Middle East, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
