The bill passed the Florida Senate on 19/2 with 25 votes in favor and 11 against, two days after the Florida House of Representatives approved it by a vote of 81-30.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law. The renaming also requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). If approved, the law will take effect in early July.

Palm Beach is a town known for its beaches and luxury estates. The airport is only minutes from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. Florida Republican lawmakers expressed their desire to rename the airport because Trump is the first president to reside permanently in Florida.

"This is the president's home; he lives 8 km from the airport," said Meg Weinberger, a Florida Republican lawmaker.

Trump, a New York native, moved to Florida in 2019 and declared his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach his permanent residence.

President Trump, a real estate mogul known for attaching his name to buildings worldwide, has consistently sought to leave his mark across the United States through extensive branding and development campaigns.

In 12/2025, the board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, an arts complex and memorial to the late President John F. Kennedy in Washington, voted to rename the facility "Trump-Kennedy Center".

The US Department of the Treasury confirmed it had draft designs for a 1 USD commemorative coin featuring Trump, despite current law prohibiting the likeness of a living or incumbent president on currency.
