Girl receives donations for treatment after vomiting blood on subway

Ho Tam Dao received 58,000 USD in donations after a video of her cleaning blood on a subway train with her shirt went viral across social media.

Ho Tam Dao, 23 years old, suffers from a rare vascular disease known as ANCA-associated vasculitis. She was on the subway in Chongqing on 23/3, heading to the hospital for an injection, when she coughed up blood due to gastrointestinal bleeding.

A passenger on the train filmed her taking off her jacket to wipe the blood from the floor, despite her movements being slow due to her weak health. The video was immediately shared across social media.

Less than one week later, she received 400,000 CNY (58,000 USD) in donations from online users. Many expressed sympathy after learning about Ho's circumstances.

"She was very considerate in trying to wipe the blood. Send her our best wishes", a social media user shared.

"Keep fighting, Ho Tam Dao. Try to live on. I am not wealthy, but I am willing to donate for your treatment", another person expressed.

Ho Tam Dao stated that the social media platform had temporarily locked her account due to an excessive number of money transfers.

"I have recorded the names of each donor and the amount they sent. This is to remind me to always be grateful to the public. I hope I can lend a hand when they face difficulties", Ho shared.

Ho Tam Dao was born into a rural family in Chongqing. She began noticing red spots on her body in 2018, while still a high school student. After finishing high school, she was admitted to a vocational school but had to drop out because her family faced financial hardship and could not afford medical and tuition fees.

She previously worked as an assembly line worker before selling orange juice on the street. In 2023, she started writing novels for online platforms, earning 5,000 - 6,000 CNY (730 - 900 USD) each month.

Ho Tam Dao's family has spent nearly one million CNY (145,000 USD) on her medical treatment. Last year, the hospital sent 20 notifications to the family, informing them of her critical condition.

Ho Tam Dao previously gained significant attention on social media in 9/2025 after her ex-boyfriend, Xiao, passed away from acute pancreatitis and left her 50,000 CNY (7,200 USD) in savings.

Speaking to the press on 31/3, she stated she is working to build a patient house, where patients and their relatives can stay while receiving treatment in a major city. She plans to visit a large hospital in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, in early April to determine if a kidney transplant is possible. Her disease has caused her to suffer from kidney failure in recent years.
