Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his disagreements with President Donald Trump, particularly regarding Israel's security interests. Speaking at a press conference on the evening of 15/6, Netanyahu stated, "President Donald Trump and I do not always share the same view. He is the US President, and I am the Prime Minister of Israel. I am responsible for Israel's security interests, and that must be carried out wisely." He added that such disagreements "occur even in the most harmonious families." Netanyahu also firmly stated Israel's commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, asserting, "Whether there is a deal or not, Iran will not have nuclear weapons, either now or in the future. As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, that will not happen."
When asked if the US-Iran deal contradicted his stance, Prime Minister Netanyahu did not respond directly. Instead, he emphasized his enduring relationship with President Trump, stating, "Wise action requires extensive experience and a deep understanding of US politics. I believe I am doing this in the best way possible."
President Trump previously criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu for an attack on Lebanon's capital, Beirut, on 14/6. Trump suggested that this action delayed the US-Iran deal by several hours. The US leader expressed immense anger over the incident, stating that the Israeli Prime Minister "did not know how to assess the situation."
Netanyahu stressed that Israel's "struggle is not yet over", adding that the nation needs to remain "vigilant, strong, and determined to defend itself when necessary." He also affirmed Israel's intention to maintain its military presence in southern Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and Syria, stating, "We will continue to be present in security zones as long as it is necessary to protect the country."
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that the US-Iran peace agreement "unanimously ends military operations on all fronts immediately and permanently, including in Lebanon." The signing ceremony for the complete document is expected to take place in Switzerland on 19/6.
