The Washington County Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin received a report last weekend about a helicopter landing in the parking lot of Cabela’s, an outdoor and hunting goods chain in Richfield.

Upon arrival, officers identified the pilot as Dennis Pipping, 69. He had taken off from Rosendale village and landed his helicopter safely in the Cabela's parking lot. The flight saved him nearly one hour of travel time compared to driving in heavy traffic.

When officers asked Pipping why he chose such an unconventional mode of transport for shopping, he calmly replied, "Driving takes too much time."

Police confirmed Pipping is an experienced pilot with decades of experience, holding all necessary helicopter licenses, complying with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety regulations, and was cooperative throughout the process.

Speaking to US media on 6/8, Pipping stated he had called the store before his 20-minute flight and circled the parking lot to ensure safety before landing.

"So I asked a neighbor friend if he wanted to take a trip to Cabela's to shop," he recounted. "Why drive when you can fly there by helicopter?"

The Washington County Sheriff's Office later posted about the incident on social media, describing it as a "one-of-a-kind way to shop." The post quickly garnered significant attention from online users.

"This is a good way to avoid speed cameras," one person joked.

"I wonder what he ended up buying?" another commented.

"How smart. There are too many crazy drivers on the road," a third remarked.
