Typhoon Dujuan packed winds of about 144 km/h when it was 130 km south of Katsuura city, Chiba prefecture, on 21/9. By early this morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) stated the typhoon was moving northeastward out to sea, with weakening wind speeds.

The Japan Disaster and Fire Management Agency reported that approximately 1.6 million residents in Tokyo and nearby regions received non-mandatory evacuation advisories starting 21/9.

At least 4 people died and 6 went missing due to heavy rain and landslides. The typhoon also caused power outages for over 9,000 households near Tokyo. Japan Airlines cancelled 135 flights, and All Nippon Airways cancelled 140.

Landslide warnings were issued for the Tokyo area, Chiba, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka prefectures. Railway operators in Tokyo and surrounding regions suspended services on several lines.

Takuya Hosomi, a JMA representative, stated, "There is still a risk of continued rain as the typhoon moves north". The JMA previously warned of risks from heavy rain and strong winds. The agency cautioned, "Total rainfall by 22/9 could exceed the average monthly rainfall for september, setting a new record".

Typhoon Dujuan forced organizers of the Tokyo Game Show, one of the world's largest video game exhibitions, to close early on 21/9, the event's final day. An outdoor music festival and a baseball game scheduled for Chiba were also cancelled.

Social media images showed flooded streets near Kamakura station, a tourist attraction. Takashi Matsuo, the mayor of Kamakura, advised, "Many areas in the city are flooded, so driving cars is very dangerous". Floodwaters also submerged several areas in Ichikawa city, east of Tokyo.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi extended condolences to the families of those who died, confirming she would proceed with her planned trip to the US. Regarding storm response efforts, she wrote, "I have instructed Chief Cabinet Secretary Takehara and Reconstruction Minister Goshi Hosono to prepare as thoroughly as possible". Prime Minister Takaichi was scheduled to speak before the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 22/9 and meet US President Donald Trump.
