Mexican police and military forces jointly arrested Ramon Angel Alvarez Ayala, known as El R-1, on 30/7. He is the notorious leader of the Los Rs gang, which operates in the states of Michoacan and Jalisco.
"El R-1 is the leader of Los Rs. The group is directly involved in extortion, murder, and drug trafficking, seriously impacting the lives of residents and businesses in the area", Mexican Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch announced on social media X on 1/8.
El R-1 is currently detained at the high-security Altiplano prison as the investigation continues.

According to the indictment, Alvarez Ayala is directly implicated in the murder of Valeria Marquez, 23, a popular beauty influencer on TikTok with more than 100,000 followers. In 5/2025, she was shot dead at a beauty salon in Zapopan while livestreaming. The killer entered, asked her name, presented a gift, and then shot her in the head and chest as viewers watched.
Minister Harfuch said the murder was linked to Francisco, El R-1's son and ex-boyfriend, who had repeatedly threatened Marquez after their breakup. Investigators determined that Francisco had asked his father and the Los Rs gang to carry out the killing.
Jalisco state police have arrested a suspect in connection with the case, while Francisco remains at large.

Additionally, El R-1 is also accused of financing and directing the assassination of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo. Mayor Manzo frequently criticized organized crime and sought to dismantle corruption within the local police force. He was shot dead in 11/2025 while attending the Day of the Dead festival. Mexican authorities have arrested 31 suspects in connection with Mayor Manzo's assassination.
Los Rs is a branch of the notorious CJNG gang. In July, the US Department of the Treasury designated CJNG as one of the world's most powerful gangs and imposed sanctions on more than 50 associated individuals and entities in Mexico.
