The incident occurred during a parliamentary session on 8/8. Acting chief executive Albin Kurti stated he needed more time to negotiate with other parties before proposing a candidate for the parliamentary leader. Time Kadrijaj, a member of the opposition conservative AAK party, then took eggs from her handbag and threw them at Kurti, forcing security to intervene.

"You are a disgrace", Kadrijaj said. In response, Kurti stated he was "ready to accept" it if that was the price for dialogue.

Kurti's left-wing Vetevendosje (VV) party is known for disrupting parliamentary activities. VV members previously used tear gas in the assembly hall in 2018 and multiple times in 2015.

This incident comes amidst a political deadlock gripping Kosovo for nearly two years. Following early elections in June, the VV party won, securing 51 of the 120 parliamentary seats. Kurti needs only a few more votes from parties representing ethnic minority groups to form a government.

However, VV does not hold two-thirds of the parliamentary seats required to elect Kosovo's head. The party is negotiating with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), which holds 18 seats, to meet this condition. LDK demands that Kosovo's head be a member of their party in any coalition agreement, a proposal Kurti has rejected.

Kosovo is a breakaway territory in southwestern Serbia, with an area of about 10,800 square kilometers and a population of approximately 1.8 million people, predominantly Albanian. Kosovo declared independence in 2008, but Serbia does not recognize it and maintains its claim over the region.

While most Western countries recognize Kosovo's independence, Russia and China's opposition has prevented the breakaway region from securing a seat at the United Nations.
