A Starsky Aviation passenger plane, carrying 50 passengers and five crew members, experienced a technical issue 15 minutes after taking off from Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, the capital, on 10/2. The flight was bound for Gaalkacyo in the northern part of Somalia.
The pilot attempted to return to the airport for an emergency landing, but the aircraft veered off the runway and slid onto the nearby coastline. Videos and images from the scene show the Fokker 50 resting by the water's edge. While the wing sustained significant damage, other parts of the aircraft remained intact.
According to officials, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the plane and transported to a hospital for medical checks and care. The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirmed the aircraft was damaged, and authorities will investigate the cause of the incident.
"Thank God no one was injured; the crew did their utmost," Ahmed Nur, chief executive officer of Starsky Aviation, posted on Facebook.
