Russian UAV company executive shot three times outside home

Andrey Cherezov, director of a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle research and development company, was ambushed and seriously injured by a gunman outside his home in Tula.

Andrey Cherezov, director of the Russian Aviation Transport Company, was returning home around 1 AM on 29/7 when he was shot three times outside his residence in Tula, about 150 km from the capital Moscow.

According to Russian news agencies Astra and Izvestia, the gunman reportedly ambushed Cherezov near the entrance to his home. Cherezov's wife heard gunshots, opened the door, and found her husband lying in a pool of blood.

The attacker fled before authorities arrived at the scene. Cherezov was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Prosecutors opened an investigation into what they described as "attempted murder". They have not released information on Cherezov's current health condition.

"An investigation is currently underway to identify the perpetrator and clarify the circumstances of the incident," the Russian Investigative Committee in Tula announced.

Cherezov's company was registered in Tula in 2022, with its main activity being research and development in natural sciences and engineering. According to Russian corporate records, the company reported revenue of 110 million rubles (about 1,43 million USD) in 2023. Net profit reached about 87,100 USD.

The company is best known for developing the "Ovod" combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) series, which the Russian military is deploying in the conflict in Ukraine.

In december 2025, a car bomb exploded south of Moscow, killing a senior Russian military official. The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed the target of the attack was Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who died from severe injuries.
