The shooting occurred at 9 p.m. on 3/5 at an unauthorized party at the Scissortail campground by Lake Arcadia in Edmond, Oklahoma, Edmond police announced. At least 23 people were injured, many suffering gunshot wounds, and 18 required hospital treatment. Police believe at least two people fired shots.
The event, named "Sunday Funday", was promoted on social media, attracting many teenagers from neighboring cities. Shamia McKinney, a party organizer, stated the event was for those 18 and older, but many minors still attended. An 18-year-old witness estimated at least 250 people were present, saying the conflict began when a group of girls argued over a boyfriend, causing chaos. McKinney noted, "When things got chaotic, people didn't know how to safely escape or handle what was happening. Instead of trying to get out, they surged forward."
