South Korean president to visit Vietnam

South Korean president Lee Jae-myung and his spouse will make a state visit to Vietnam from 21-24/4.

The visit by president Lee Jae-myung and his spouse comes at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This marks president Lee Jae-myung's first visit to Vietnam since taking office in 6/2025.

Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations on 22/12/1992. In 12/2022, the two countries upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership framework.

In 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached 89,5 billion USD, an increase of 9,6% compared to 2024. During the first three months of the year, total import-export turnover between Vietnam and South Korea reached 26,9 billion USD, a 30% increase over the same period in 2025.

Cumulatively, as of the end of 3/2026, South Korea remains Vietnam's largest investor with 10,447 projects and a total registered capital of 98,9 billion USD. Investments are concentrated in areas such as manufacturing and processing, high-tech, electronics, automobiles and auto parts, construction, and real estate.

In 2025, South Korea was Vietnam's second largest source of tourists, with 4,3 million arrivals, accounting for 21% of total international visitors to Vietnam.

Approximately 352,000 Vietnamese people reside in South Korea, while 200,000 South Koreans live and work in Vietnam.
