The impromptu performance by the two leaders took place on 9/7 during a reception hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office. This event was part of Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's official visit to Malaysia.
At the reception, Mr. Anwar invited his Thai counterpart to perform on stage. Mr. Anutin played the saxophone, performing the classic song "My Way," famously associated with American singer Frank Sinatra.
Prime Minister Anwar then took the microphone and sang along. The two stood side-by-side on stage to applause from guests. The two leaders subsequently performed "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley.
Earlier, the two Prime Ministers held discussions on fostering bilateral relations across various sectors. Key topics included: trade, investment, border connectivity, security, agriculture, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
This marks Mr. Anutin's first official trip since taking office as Prime Minister in March.
Before assuming the premiership, Mr. Anutin served as minister of public health, minister of interior, and deputy prime minister. He often makes casual appearances on social media, enjoys street food, and has a passion for playing two musical instruments: the saxophone and piano. He also enjoys performing 1980s Thai pop songs.
