UAE official demands compensation from Iran

An advisor to the UAE President calls on Iran to compensate for damages caused by Tehran's attacks against the country.

Anwar Gargash, an advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), posted on social media X today, stating: "Any political solution to address Iran's aggression against Gulf countries must include clear guarantees to prevent future attacks, affirm the principle of non-aggression, and demand Iran compensate for targeting civilians and critical civilian infrastructure."

Gargash accused Iran of misleading its neighbors about its true intentions before hostilities erupted, demonstrating premeditated aggression despite efforts to avoid it. He also criticized Iran as the primary threat to the security of Gulf nations.

Iran has not responded to this statement.

The UAE official's post comes after Iran demanded compensation from the United States and Israel for damages from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, sent a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 19/3. The letter stated that UAE's permission for the US to use its territory to conduct airstrikes against Iran constituted "wrongful acts under international law and entails state responsibility."

Iranian officials believe UAE is responsible for compensating and fully indemnifying all material and moral damages.

UAE is Iran's second-largest trading partner, after Trung Quoc. The nation served as an economic lifeline for Iran for many years when Tehran faced severe sanctions.

However, after the US-Israel launched an offensive against Iran on 28/2, UAE became Iran's primary target for retaliation. Tehran believes Abu Dhabi's decades-long strategic alliance with Washington is the reason for launching large-scale attacks.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on 29/3 that it had attacked an aluminum production factory in UAE. It stated that the location was "an industrial facility linked to the US military and aerospace sectors in the region." According to the IRGC, this action was in response to US-Israel attacks on Iranian industrial infrastructure, conducted from bases in Gulf nations.
