Berlin police reported that a white van drove into Tiergarten park around 10 p.m. on 25/7, striking multiple individuals. Some victims sustained serious injuries and received treatment at the scene. One person died.

After hitting the crowd, the vehicle collided with a tree and was abandoned in the park. Its occupants fled the scene, and police are currently searching for them.

Approximately 10 ambulances and a field tent were deployed on the road. Police also conducted patrols throughout the large park.

The incident led to the early conclusion of the Gay Pride march. Police instructed participants to return home and cordoned off the area.

A witness near the festival's main stage reported that the crowd complied with police requests, vacating the area and moving away from the park around 11 p.m. Originally, activities on the main stage were scheduled to continue until midnight.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner condemned the crash, stating that "a gathering meant to celebrate a tolerant and peaceful Berlin was brutally attacked". Prime Minister Friedrich Merz announced that he and Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt would "ensure this horrific act is fully investigated and the perpetrators are appropriately punished".

Hundreds of thousands had previously participated in the Christopher Street Day event, which is Germany's LGBTQ+ Pride Day.

In recent years, Germany has experienced a series of public violent attacks, including a stabbing in February 2025 at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin that severely injured a Spanish tourist. In March, Wassim Al M., 23, a Syrian national, received a 13-year prison sentence for perpetrating this attack.

Last month, Taleb Jawad al-Abdulmohsen, a 51-year-old Saudi psychiatrist, was sentenced to life in prison for driving a vehicle into a crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg, eastern Germany, in 2024. That incident resulted in six deaths and over 300 injuries.

Abdulmohsen was an anti-Islam activist. During his trial, his testimony was often incoherent, filled with conspiracy theories and extreme right-wing views.

Germany's deadliest attack in recent years occurred in December 2016, when a truck plowed into a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people.
