During a regular press conference today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang called on the United States to objectively and equitably assess Vietnam's dedication and progress in intellectual property (IP) protection and enforcement. Her remarks came as she addressed questions regarding Vietnam's policies for domestic exporting businesses, particularly concerning the US's 2026 Special 301 Report on intellectual property.
Hang emphasized Vietnam's firm commitment to combating intellectual property rights infringements. "Vietnam's stance is to resolutely and strictly handle all intellectual property rights infringements and will continue to strengthen intellectual property rights protection and enforcement," she stated. She added that Vietnam's legal system related to intellectual property has undergone continuous improvement and synchronization.
These efforts have garnered international recognition. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ranked Vietnam 44th among 139 countries and economies in the 2025 Global Innovation Index (GII), placing it among ASEAN nations with positive outcomes in this sector.
Beyond legislative enhancements, the Vietnamese government has issued numerous guiding and operational documents to bolster IP rights enforcement and to combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property-infringing products.

Vietnamese authorities have collaborated closely with technology companies and cross-border platform and service providers to detect and address numerous IP-related incidents.
In 2025, authorities handled thousands of intellectual property infringement cases. Market Management forces addressed 3,306 intellectual property infringement cases in traditional markets and 599 cases on e-commerce and social media platforms. Furthermore, over 1,200 websites found to be providing or sharing content with signs of copyright and related rights infringement were blocked.
The number of criminal intellectual property cases, prosecutions, and trials also increased from the previous year, while Customs detected and handled many high-value cases involving counterfeit goods and IP-infringing products.
Hang reiterated Vietnam's readiness for dialogue, stating, "Vietnam requests that the US provide an objective and balanced assessment of Vietnam's efforts and results in intellectual property protection and enforcement. We are also ready to share information and clarify Vietnam's policies and regulations with international partners, including the US, to adequately address any differences, thereby contributing to building a transparent and healthy business investment environment in Vietnam and promoting international cooperation in intellectual property." This collaborative approach aims to foster a transparent and healthy business environment and promote international cooperation in the intellectual property sector.
