General Secretary and President To Lam this afternoon received Sophon Zaram, President of Thailand’s National Assembly. Zaram is on an official visit to attend activities marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President To Lam emphasized the visit's significance, highlighting it as a milestone for the strong development of Vietnam-Thailand relations and new momentum for bilateral cooperation.

National Assembly President Sophon Zaram affirmed Thailand values its comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. He noted the two countries share a strong foundation of friendship, many similar strategic interests, and significant cooperation potential. Zaram expressed a desire to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in economy, trade, education, and tourism.

The two leaders agreed to implement specific cooperation programs and projects to strengthen economic connectivity and promote balanced, sustainable bilateral trade. Their goal is to achieve a trade turnover of 25 billion USD, with aspirations to reach 50 billion USD.

Both sides also agreed to enhance defense and security cooperation, working closely to prevent and combat transnational crime. Vietnam and Thailand committed to facilitating and encouraging mutual investment between their businesses.

President To Lam expressed his hope that Thailand’s National Assembly and relevant agencies would continue to support the Vietnamese community, enabling them to live stable lives and contribute to strengthening friendship between the two peoples.

Vietnam and Thailand also agreed to continue close coordination within regional and international cooperation mechanisms, especially ASEAN, Mekong Sub-region cooperation frameworks, and the United Nations.
