Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 48, shared insights into his personal life in an interview on 20/2, as the war with Russia entered its fifth year. He expressed regret over the inability to dedicate a full day to his family.
The Ukrainian leader stated he strives to make time for his wife, Olena, and their two children, but "it's not every day". He acknowledged, "the truth is I haven't spent much time with my wife and children".
Zelensky has two children: daughter Oleksandra, 21, and son Kyrylo, 13. He described Oleksandra as "very mature", noting he learns "there is still much I don't know" when speaking with her.
While unable to fully fulfill his fatherly duties amid leading the nation in conflict, Zelensky expressed confidence that "mothers and grandmothers can raise children better. They can teach them many things". However, when discussing his son, he admitted not fully carrying out his responsibilities because "there are very important things a boy needs to discuss with his father, like between men".

The former television star noted the war prevents him from engaging in pastimes like going to movies or the theater. "I also don't go to stores, and throughout four years of conflict, I have never once been to a cafe", the Ukrainian President said, though he still tries to keep up with new film releases.
When not traveling abroad or visiting soldiers, Zelensky spends most of his time at the presidential palace. He pays close attention to maintaining his fitness. "Just a quick 25-30 minute workout is quite good. Sometimes I lift weights, but not always", he revealed. "Before the war, I enjoyed outdoor running, but I no longer maintain this habit".
During the first two years of the conflict, Zelensky lived in a bunker within the heavily guarded presidential area in Kyiv. Ukraine accused Russia of previously planning his assassination, leading to strict secrecy around his schedule, especially his movements. Currently, he no longer resides in the bunker, emphasizing that "in my opinion, the most important thing is that the Russians can no longer force us into bunkers".
The Russia-Ukraine conflict is approaching its fifth year with no clear prospects for a ceasefire, despite both sides enduring heavy losses in lives and property. Tripartite negotiations involving the US, Russia, and Ukraine are ongoing, but the territorial issue remains one of the most difficult impasses to resolve. Russia demands Ukraine cede part of its territory in exchange for peace, while Kyiv declares this an issue it cannot compromise on.
