Automobile consumption reaches record high since early 2025

In October, the entire industry sold over 63,500 vehicles, the highest level since the beginning of the year, with VinFast alone capturing 32% market share, dominating Toyota and Hyundai.

The Vietnamese automobile market began the final quarter of 2025 with a positive momentum, as sales for most car manufacturers saw strong growth compared to September. The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) and imported brands reported sales of 37,910 vehicles in October, an increase of 24%. Hyundai sold 5,260 vehicles, up 22%.

VinFast led the industry with 20,380 vehicles sold in October, marking its highest monthly sales figure since the beginning of the year. The company's monthly sales volume was comparable to what other manufacturers sold in an entire quarter. This sales performance by VinFast represented a 46% increase compared to September.

Combining data from the three major players, the entire industry consumed 63,550 vehicles in October, a record high for 2025. This volume translates to more than one automobile model being sold every minute.

Cumulative sales for the entire market through October reached 454,659 vehicles. This figure does not include many brands not affiliated with the aforementioned organizations. Since VinFast did not release its October 2024 data, the specific growth rate for the entire industry remains unclear.

VAMA and imported brands alone sold 289,333 vehicles, an increase of about 9,5% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, Hyundai's sales decreased by nearly 16%, with 41,062 vehicles sold in the first 10 months of 2025. VinFast, however, achieved cumulative sales of 124,264 vehicles after 10 months, surpassing its total sales for 2024 (over 87,000 vehicles).

Given the current sales momentum, many experts suggest that the 2025 market, with two months remaining, could replicate the achievement of over half a million vehicles sold in 2022 (508,547 vehicles). The combined effect of promotional programs and discounts from manufacturers and dealerships, coupled with increased market demand towards the year-end, is driving strong market liquidity.

Overall, the market in the past 10 months has been more vibrant compared to the same period last year, but growth among manufacturers has been uneven. Alongside VinFast's record sales of over 100,000 vehicles, an unprecedented achievement for a single brand in one year, other manufacturers such as Toyota and Ford also saw sales growth, by 17% and 14% respectively. Meanwhile, brands with high market shares like Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Kia, and Mazda experienced declines.

The two Korean manufacturers recorded some of the highest sales declines in the market, with decreases of 22% and 16% respectively after the first 10 months of 2025. This further highlights the diminishing consumer preference among Vietnamese customers for Kia and Hyundai, a trend that began in 2024.
