Car changes lanes "wherever convenient" on expressway

A car abruptly cut across the lane after the toll booth to pull over to the roadside.

The incident occurred on 3/10 at a toll booth on the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway in Dong Hung commune. A car in the outermost left lane, immediately after passing the toll gate, suddenly turned sharply right towards the shoulder, cutting off a dashcam-equipped vehicle exiting the booth in the adjacent lane. The dashcam vehicle braked in time, avoiding a collision.

A similar incident involved a garbage truck changing three lanes at once on Nhat Tan Bridge, Hanoi, in 5/2025. *Video: Dao Hung*

Proper driving skills are essential when changing lanes. Drivers must check mirrors and blind spots, use turn signals, maintain distance from other vehicles, and only change lanes when it is safe. A turn signal indicates an intention to change direction; it does not grant the right to cut off other drivers or force them to yield.

According to Decree 168/2024 on penalties for road traffic violations, improper lane changing—specifically, changing more than one lane at a time—carries a fine of 4-6 million VND and results in a deduction of 2 points from the driver's license.
