The incident occurred at a temple on Yaowarat Road in Bangkok at 13:00 on 1/10. Police representatives stated the driver, a 78-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure, reportedly fainted at the wheel. This caused him to accidentally press the accelerator, sending his electric car into a crowd observing a ceremony inside the 68-year-old temple.
The accident injured three people, two severely. Footage from inside the temple shows a man opening the passenger-side door and stepping out after the car stopped upon hitting an altar. Three victims were trapped under the vehicle. The crash also damaged many artifacts and architectural elements.

At the scene, rescue teams used hydraulic equipment to free those trapped beneath the vehicle. A security guard stated that about 30 people were visiting the temple when the accident occurred.
The elderly driver later regained consciousness and police questioned him. An alcohol test at the police station yielded a negative result. Police initially charged the driver with reckless driving causing injury to others. According to reports, the penalty's severity may depend on the extent of the victims' injuries.
