Drivers can prevent such accidents by exercising caution and proper technique. Upon seeing a puddle or a curve ahead, drivers should reduce speed by releasing the accelerator and lightly applying the brake if necessary. The steering wheel should be held firmly yet flexibly, avoiding sudden steering inputs or abrupt braking, which can cause imbalance and hydroplaning.
Standing water on the road surface creates a layer that separates the tires from the road, leading to a loss of grip. If grip is lost while the driver is steering, the vehicle is more prone to spinning sideways and skidding uncontrollably.
In the event of hydroplaning, drivers should release the accelerator, identify a safe space ahead, steer the wheel in a safe direction, and allow the vehicle to slow down gradually. If braking is necessary, apply gentle and increasing pressure, avoiding sudden braking.
According to Decree 168 on road traffic penalties, a car driver who fails to control their speed and causes an accident faces a fine of 20-22 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from their driver's license.
