Delhi traffic police have relaunched the Traffic Prahari app, a platform allowing citizens to report traffic violations and receive cash rewards for valid reports. The initiative aims to improve road safety by encouraging public participation in monitoring and enforcing traffic laws.
Since its relaunch on 1/9/2024, the Traffic Prahari app has seen enthusiastic participation from citizens across the city. Many users have formed groups on social media platforms to coordinate their efforts, dividing the city into zones for broader coverage. Some individuals, especially the unemployed, have turned this into a source of income by regularly reporting violations and receiving monthly rewards.

The process is simple. With a smartphone, citizens download the Traffic Prahari app, register with their mobile number and an OTP, then upload photos or videos of violations. The content must clearly show the timestamp and GPS location for the complaint to be considered.
Each report is verified by the Delhi traffic police, and a notice is sent to the violator. The department ensures all reports are thoroughly checked to prevent misuse or false complaints.
To maintain participant motivation, Delhi traffic police offer a cash reward system. Each month, the most active and accurate contributor receives 50,000 rupees (570 USD). Subsequent contributors receive 25,000 rupees (285 USD), 15,000 rupees (171 USD), and 10,000 rupees (114 USD), respectively. This reward structure aims to foster a sense of civic responsibility while providing a practical financial incentive.
The Traffic Prahari app builds on earlier efforts, like the 2015 Traffic Sentinel program, but leverages new technology for wider reach and better results.
