On the morning of 21/4, in the quarry area of Ly Thuong Kiet ward, a dump truck was turning when it was hit by another dump truck speeding downhill. The impact struck the side near the driver's seat, causing both vehicles to overturn and scattering rocks everywhere.
The accident resulted in the immediate death of two drivers. Authorities quickly arrived to manage the scene and investigate the cause. Initial suspicions point to brake failure as a possible reason for the crash.
Operating heavy vehicles demands strict adherence to safety regulations and thorough pre-operation inspections, especially of the braking system. For heavy trucks, the foot brake is primarily for speed control in simple road conditions. Effective braking on steep roads or at high speeds requires additional systems like: air brakes and exhaust brakes.
Drivers operating heavy vehicles, such as dump trucks in quarry areas, must strictly follow safety regulations and regularly inspect their braking systems, including: disc brakes, drum brakes, air brakes, and air pressure, before operation. When descending slopes, drivers should engage a low gear and use the foot brake in a 'tap-and-release' manner to prevent overheating or pressure loss. They must also control their speed, maintain a safe distance, and carefully observe the terrain to minimize accident risks.
