Entrepreneur Umit Sabanci embarked on a record-breaking journey in July, driving a Lucid Air Grand Touring 1,205 km from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany. The route traversed Alpine mountain roads, autobahns, and paved roads.
The previous record of 1,044 km was set in June by a Mercedes EQS 450+ traveling between two cities in Japan. Lucid's new record is particularly impressive considering the challenging terrain between St. Moritz and Munich.
Situated on the southern slopes of the Alps, St. Moritz lies at an elevation of approximately 1,800 m above sea level. Munich, on the other hand, sits at about 520 m above sea level, a difference of roughly 1,280 m.

The standard Lucid Air Grand Touring has an EPA-rated range of 830 km, indicating that the new Guinness World Record involved specific strategies.
Lucid enlisted the help of Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur and Guinness World Record enthusiast. Sabanci, along with a companion, holds the record for most countries visited in 24 hours, having traversed 13 countries in 5/2017.
Sabanci also set the Guinness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation by air in 8/2022. Taking off from Los Angeles, he flew to Doha (Qatar) and Brisbane (Australia) before returning to Los Angeles. The 37,000 km journey comprised three flights and two connecting flights, completed in 46 hours and 23 minutes.
This is not Sabanci's first collaboration with Lucid. In 6/2024, he broke the record for driving through the most countries on a single charge, covering 912 km across the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Italy.
The Lucid Air has a history of impressive single-charge performance. In 2021, before deliveries began later that year, Lucid announced that the Air Dream Edition Range's 836 km range was certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This was the longest range ever validated by the EPA for an electric vehicle.
The Air Dream Edition Range boasts a 113 kWh battery, 933 horsepower, and 999 Nm of torque.
In the US, the 2025 Lucid Air starts at 71,400 USD and goes up to 250,500 USD. The standard Pure version has an 84.0 kWh battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 430 horsepower. Higher trims feature dual motors, all-wheel drive, and varying power outputs: 620 horsepower for the Touring (92 kWh battery) and 1,050 horsepower for the Grand Touring (118 kWh battery). The top-of-the-line Sapphire (118 kWh battery) uses three motors, generating 1,234 horsepower.
