The traffic incident occurred at night on a narrow road. A truck, fully loaded with mud, was following closely behind a bus at high speed. When the bus stopped abruptly, the truck driver had no time to react and was forced to brake suddenly.
The sudden stop caused a large amount of mud from the truck's bed to spill onto the road due to inertia. The mud splashed onto the walls of nearby houses. Fortunately, no motorbikes were traveling alongside the truck at that moment. However, instead of stopping to clean up the scene, the truck driver drove away, leaving a muddy, slippery stretch of road that posed a danger to other vehicles.
This incident highlights important driving skills. When driving in urban areas, especially at night, drivers should maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. For large vehicles like trucks or buses, this distance needs to be greater than usual due to limited visibility and significant inertia. Drivers must always control their speed to handle unexpected situations, whether from vehicles in front or obstacles on narrow roads.
Furthermore, vehicles transporting loose materials or waste must be securely covered with tarpaulins to prevent spills. Truck beds should not be overloaded, which can lead to spillage when emergency braking. If a spill occurs, the driver is responsible for stopping, placing warning signs, and coordinating cleanup to ensure safety for other road users.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates a fine of 2-4 million VND for road users who transport raw materials or other materials without proper covering or allow them to spill onto the road. Drivers are also responsible for cleaning up spilled materials.
