Despite loud warning horns signaling an approaching train, red barrier lights, and enforcement efforts by authorities, many motorcyclists continued to rush across the railway tracks, acting like moths to a flame.
On 3/3, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) handled 143 railway crossing violations nationwide. These included primarily 120 motorcyclists, 18 automobiles, 2 bicycles, and 3 pedestrians. Out of the 143 cases, authorities directly intervened in 131, while 12 received cold penalties. Total fines amounted to 135,3 million VND.
Among the 52 cases of crossing railway tracks despite a red light, 10 involved deliberate violations even after the barriers had fully lowered. The CSGT highlights this as an especially dangerous act, carrying a high risk of accidents.
Unlike road traffic accidents which can arise from many unexpected situations, vehicle operators have full control when approaching railway intersections. The simple act of stopping to check both sides before proceeding takes only a few seconds. If warning lights or barriers are present, stopping is mandatory. Trains travel at very high speeds and cannot brake like automobiles; therefore, once on the tracks, the risk of accidents and casualties is very high.
Road users must be proactive and patient, avoiding impulsive actions that could cost them their lives for a few moments of haste.
