Mazda CX-5 and Ford Territory dominate the C-segment CUV market

In the first half of 2025, CX-5 and Territory sales accounted for over half of the segment's market share, leaving rivals like Sportage and CR-V far behind.

The C-segment SUV market experienced a dynamic first half of 2025, with total segment sales reaching 20,860 vehicles, a nearly 50% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Successive promotional campaigns for popular models fueled this growth.

The Territory can be considered the dark horse of the segment. Since its launch in 10/2022, while not yet dethroning the Mazda CX-5, Ford's model has surpassed many established rivals like the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, and Kia Sportage. In the first half of 2025, Ford Territory sales increased by 91% compared to the same period last year.

At the end of 2024, Ford implemented new pricing for the Territory, reducing the price by 40 million VND across all versions. With the new price ranging from 759-889 million VND, the Ford Territory is close to the segment's best-selling model, the Mazda CX-5, in its base trim. The top-tier Territory is nearly 100 million VND cheaper than the CX-5. This set the stage for the explosive sales growth of the American brand's model in the first half of 2025.

More competitive pricing, along with individual dealer promotions, helped the Territory, a model developed in China, close in on the CX-5. Within Ford's product lineup, the Territory is the second best-selling model, trailing only the Ranger pickup truck.

The CX-5 did not see price reductions as steep as its Ford rival due to its already strong sales. With a design that has resonated with Vietnamese customers for years, adequate features, and ample supply, the Mazda model remains a formidable force in the C-segment CUV market.

In the first half of 2025, the Mazda CX-5 sold nearly 7,400 units, a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The CX-5 holds about a 30% market share in the segment. Together with the Territory, the CX-5 dominates the remaining competitors, with their combined sales accounting for over 50% of total sales.

The first half of 2025 marked the first time VinFast announced sales figures for the VF 7. This model sold over 3,500 units, ranking 4th in the segment by sales and competing with the gasoline-powered Hyundai Tucson.

Hyundai's product saw an 84% increase in sales in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. This is because, in early 2024, the Hyundai Tucson was in a lifecycle transition phase, resulting in reduced supply.

The Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage experienced slight sales increases compared to the first half of 2024, at 15% and 4%, respectively. Mitsubishi is selling the last remaining units of the Outlander before concluding its journey in Vietnam. A replacement for the Outlander is expected to launch by the end of 2025.

The C-segment CUV market also includes models like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester, and Skoda Karoq, but sales figures for these models have not been released.
