The small MPV segment remains one of the two highest-selling car segments in Vietnam in the first half of 2025, alongside small SUVs. The Mitsubishi Xpander continues to dominate, far outselling competitors like the Toyota Veloz and Honda BR-V.
In June, the Xpander was the only MPV model to sell over 1,700 units, placing it among the top 10 best-selling models in the market. It was the most popular internal combustion engine vehicle in Vietnam.
The cumulative sales of the Mitsubishi model reached nearly 8,200 units, accounting for about 44% of the segment's market share. The Xpander's advantages lie in its design, which suits the taste of most Vietnamese customers, its moderate features, and its diverse range of versions catering to both family and commercial use.
Compared to the same period in 2024, Vietnamese consumers bought more small MPVs in the first half of 2025. Total segment sales reached 18,627 vehicles, a 5% increase compared to the first half of 2024. The Xpander also saw a 5% increase. Although this is the lowest growth rate in the segment, the substantial lead over its competitors ensures the Mitsubishi model maintains its top sales position.

Trailing the Xpander with the closest sales figures is Toyota's MPV duo: the Avanza and Veloz. The Japanese automaker has consistently discounted these two models since the beginning of 2025. However, this hasn't created much of an advantage because competitors, especially the Xpander, have also offered discounts.
The Avanza and Veloz sold a total of 3,717 units, about 4,400 units less than the leading Xpander. Toyota holds a 20% market share in the small MPV segment thanks to this duo.
The Hyundai Stargazer and Honda BR-V experienced the strongest sales growth in the segment, at 58% and 28% respectively, in the first half of 2025. The Hyundai model's high growth is attributed to the reduced supply in early 2024 for the launch of its upgraded version in 4/2024.
The BR-V is a surprise performer in the small MPV segment. Slightly smaller than its competitors, available in only two versions, and priced among the highest, the Honda model has seen improved sales in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in previous years, thanks to continuous promotional offers in recent months.
BR-V sales reached nearly 2,000 units after six months, slightly more than the Kia Carens with nearly 1,800 units. Along with the Avanza, the Suzuki XL7 is one of the slowest-selling products. The XL7's cumulative sales reached 1,193 units, a 33% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
