A car with a dashcam slowed down to allow two children to cross the street. As they were crossing, a motorcyclist encroached into the oncoming lane to overtake the car and hit them. Fortunately, it was a minor collision, and the children were able to continue walking.
The motorcyclist demonstrated poor overtaking skills by moving into the opposite lane to pass the car in a blind spot. The driver couldn't see the children because the car obstructed their view. Whenever their forward vision is blocked, drivers should slow down, drive parallel to, or even fall back behind the obstacle (the car with the dashcam) to avoid unexpected situations.
Furthermore, drivers who intend to yield should proactively decelerate from a distance, come to a complete stop, and maintain a safe distance of several meters from pedestrians crossing the street. Stopping and then accelerating again can make it difficult for pedestrians, especially children, to anticipate the car’s movement, leading to dangerous situations.
