Omoda C5 hybrid launched in Vietnam, priced from 669 million VND

The B-segment CUV combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total output of 221 horsepower, with the top-tier version priced at 749 million VND.

On 30/3, Omoda Vietnam launched the hybrid version of the C5. The vehicle, fully named Omoda C5 SHS-H, is available in two options: the Premium, priced at 669 million VND, and the Flagship, at 749 million VND. For the first 99 customers purchasing in April, special promotional prices are 599 million VND for the Premium version and 669 million VND for the Flagship.

The C5 hybrid's design largely retains the overall styling of the gasoline version, which has been sold in Vietnam since 2025. The most significant differences include a redesigned front grille, the addition of roof rails, and a subtly refined coupe-style rear.

The Chinese automaker equips the C5 SHS-H with 17-inch wheels for the Premium version and 18-inch wheels for the Flagship. All lighting components are LED.

As one of the C5 variants, the hybrid version possesses several distinct characteristics compared to the gasoline model. For instance, its wheelbase is 20 mm shorter, yet its overall length is 47 mm longer than the gasoline version. With a 2,610 mm wheelbase, the C5 hybrid is positioned in the B-segment, but Omoda aims to compete in the B+ segment, alongside models such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-30. The C5 hybrid's length of 4,447 mm is comparable to the Toyota model.

The Omoda C5 hybrid features a multi-link rear suspension, a departure from the torsion beam setup found in the internal combustion engine version. This suspension choice for the C5 hybrid is similar to that of the VinFast VF 6 or Lynk & Co 06. Most other competitors in the segment typically use a torsion beam rear suspension. Theoretically, a multi-link rear suspension provides a smoother ride.

Inside, the C5 hybrid maintains the same general layout as the gasoline version. However, the electronic gear selector has been relocated from the center console to behind the steering wheel, resulting in a more open armrest area.

The vehicle includes standard features such as automatic air conditioning and connected dual 12,3-inch screens, one for the speedometer and one for the infotainment system. The seats are upholstered in a sporty leather style, similar to the internal combustion engine version. Remote start and remote air conditioning activation are available on both versions. The top-tier Flagship version also includes double-layer soundproof glass, a rare feature in the B-segment CUV category.

The Omoda C5's hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 221 horsepower and 295 Nm of torque. These figures are among the highest in the B-segment CUV category. The vehicle uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) specifically designed for hybrid vehicles.

The Flagship version's safety system includes a full suite of driver assistance features: lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic high beams. The Premium version offers more basic features, including cruise control, hill start assist, rear parking sensors, and tire pressure monitoring. A 540-degree camera system is standard on both versions.

Compared to hybrid versions of the Toyota Yaris Cross (728 million VND) and Honda HR-V (869 million VND), the Omoda C5's price range of 669-749 million VND is competitive. It also offers superior convenience features and engine performance compared to its two Japanese rivals. The main challenge for this Chinese model remains brand recognition, as it only entered Vietnam in late 2024 and is less established than its competitors.
