A video captured on 3/12 on Tran Thu Do street shows a passenger bus illegally encroaching on an oncoming lane, causing significant traffic disruption. The bus occupied the entire opposite lane, forcing vehicles traveling correctly to halt.
The footage depicts a busy road where multiple vehicles were seen crossing into other lanes. However, the passenger bus took over the entire oncoming lane, driving close to the sidewalk. This maneuver completely blocked the path for vehicles in the opposite direction, with motorcyclists forced to navigate through narrow gaps or ride onto the sidewalk. The driver equipped with a dashcam had to stop and wait for a considerable time until the large bus eventually returned to its designated lane.
This incident highlights a dangerous traffic violation. Drivers are legally required to stay within their designated lanes. In congested traffic, vehicles should queue in an orderly manner. Occupying oncoming lanes creates a high risk of accidents and obstructs other vehicles that are following traffic rules.
The bus driver's action constitutes an illegal overtaking maneuver, as traffic law strictly prohibits overtaking when there is oncoming traffic. According to Decree 168/2024, vehicles caught illegally overtaking in prohibited areas face fines ranging from 4-6 million VND and two demerit points on their driver's license.
