Bangkok traffic police successfully intervened on the afternoon of 14/1 to stop a runaway bus after its tow rope snapped on the busy Phaya Thai road. Earlier, authorities received a report about a route 54 bus experiencing a brake malfunction on the major central Bangkok thoroughfare, known for its heavy traffic.

Upon arrival, police officers assessed the situation, with some personnel going under the vehicle to release the stuck brakes. Once the brakes were freed, the bus was prepared for towing.

However, during the towing operation, the tow rope unexpectedly snapped. The large bus began to roll uncontrollably down the street, posing a significant risk in the densely populated area. The quick-thinking police team immediately responded, using physical barriers to chock the wheels and bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Fortunately, due to their swift action, no collisions or injuries were reported.

The officers involved in this incident belong to a specialized technical traffic police unit. This unit focuses on providing emergency support and regulating traffic through a combination of technical expertise, mobile response capabilities, and strategic interventions.
