The recall addresses a manufacturing defect where rear seatbelt retractor bolts were not adequately tightened during assembly. The report indicates that the seatbelt locking mechanisms in these luxury SUVs may not have been properly secured at the factory. This could compromise occupant safety.
If a bolt loosens over time, the rear seatbelt may not securely restrain an occupant in an accident. Furthermore, in some vehicle configurations, the rear seatback could move forward if luggage shifts during a collision, increasing the risk of injury for passengers. Given these possibilities, the company has advised vehicle owners to limit the use of the rear seats or luggage compartment until their vehicle has been inspected.
Rolls-Royce uncovered the issue during a road test when a rattling sound was detected. The noise was traced to a bolt in the rear seatbelt retractor. A comprehensive investigation followed, identifying 102 Cullinan vehicles produced from 27/11/2019 to 19/11/2025 with loose bolts in the same position that were not tightened during assembly.
Rolls-Royce stated that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect. The repair will be completely free of charge and promptly carried out, with the process beginning in May.
