On 26/9, Swallow, a manufacturer and rental service for electric vehicles, began accepting pre-orders for the Mopero Mini Cargo 2. This is an improved version featuring five key upgrades compared to its predecessor.

The Mopero Mini Cargo falls under the "special small motorcycle" category, allowing it to operate entirely on an electric motor without requiring pedaling. The scooter is equipped with three storage spaces: a front basket, a central basket, and a rear basket, catering to a wide range of needs for commuting, shopping, or transporting goods in urban areas. The new version retains its compact design and characteristic storage capacity but is optimized for performance, safety, and durability.

Notable upgrades include automatic cruise control and two dad/mom driving modes.

The scooter has three storage spaces.

Simply hold the included NFC card above the device to power it on, eliminating the need for a physical key.

The biggest change is the addition of automatic cruise control. This system maintains a steady speed without requiring continuous throttle engagement, significantly reducing wrist and finger fatigue on longer journeys.

Furthermore, the traditional twist-grip throttle has been replaced with a thumb-press accelerator. This design allows riders to easily accelerate while maintaining a firm grip on the handlebars, making it suitable even for novice motorcycle riders.

In addition, the Mopero Mini Cargo 2 introduces a "dad/mom mode" which offers two acceleration levels. The "mom" mode provides a smooth, gentle start, while the "dad" mode offers more robust acceleration. Both modes limit the top speed to 20 km/h.

The scooter's kickstand has been enlarged to enhance stability when parked with heavy loads, facilitating easier loading and unloading. Safety features are also upgraded with reinforced front and rear disc brake calipers and improved load-bearing components. The central storage bag utilizes a new, more durable fabric and stitching, maintaining its maximum load capacity of 150 kg.

In Japan, the "special small motorcycle" segment is regulated by the revised Road Traffic Law from 7/2023. Vehicles that meet safety standards and have a speed limit below 20 km/h allow individuals aged 16 and older to operate on public roads without a driver's license. However, these vehicles still require license plate registration, civil liability insurance, and are only permitted to travel in the left-hand lane or designated bicycle lanes.

The Mopero Mini Cargo 2 is priced at 189,800 yen (including tax, equivalent to 1,200 USD) on Swallow's official online store. The first units are expected to be delivered to customers from mid-november.
