The incident occurred on the morning of 19/7 on Man Thien Street (Tang Nhon Phu Ward). Heavy rain made the road slippery. A taxi driver, upon seeing an obstacle in the middle of the road, swerved left across a double yellow line to avoid it. At that moment, an oncoming motorcyclist in the opposite lane couldn't react in time, braked, and fell.
The female motorcyclist was helped by bystanders and the driver with the dashcam. According to the dashcam driver, the taxi driver blamed the motorcyclist for driving too fast in the rain and didn't accept responsibility for the accident.
Drivers should not cross double yellow lines. If there's an obstacle, they should reduce speed, observe carefully, signal, and then change lanes. Motorcyclists should reduce speed in rainy conditions, approach intersections cautiously, and anticipate potential hazards.
In this situation, the taxi driver could have avoided the obstacle by staying in the right lane, as per traffic laws, without crossing the double yellow line. According to Decree 168/2024 on penalties for road traffic violations, crossing a solid line carries a fine of 400,000-600,000 VND. If an accident occurs, the fine is 20-22 million VND, and 10 points are deducted from the driver's license.
