A mass motorcycle crash occurred on the Mai Dich overpass on 30/1, involving about 10 riders who fell after sudden braking on a rain-slicked road. Several individuals sustained injuries, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The incident unfolded as approximately 10 motorcyclists were traveling in close proximity. Due to the wet and slippery conditions caused by rain, when one vehicle braked abruptly, others followed suit, leading to a chain reaction. Their wheels lost traction, resulting in multiple riders skidding and falling onto the pavement.
This incident highlights critical motorcycle safety issues, especially when driving on wet roads. Following too closely behind another vehicle on slippery surfaces significantly increases the risk of needing to brake suddenly if the lead vehicle stops unexpectedly. Furthermore, abrupt braking without properly modulating both front and rear brakes can easily lead to a loss of control and skidding.
To prevent skidding during emergency braking, riders should apply both brakes simultaneously, either with equal force or with the rear brake slightly stronger than the front.
