The Tesla Model S and Model X, once benchmarks of the electric vehicle industry, are becoming a thing of the past, at least in Europe. The American automaker has updated its European website, removing the option to order new vehicles and offering only existing stock for purchase.
This decision follows Tesla's 2023 discontinuation of right-hand-drive versions of both models. In April, Tesla also stopped taking orders for the Model S and Model X in China, leaving North America and Europe as the primary markets for these vehicles.
Earlier this year, Tesla upgraded the Model S and Model X with multi-color interior lighting and other minor changes. However, accompanying price increases left fans of the brand dissatisfied. In the US, prices for both models increased by 5,000 USD in June.

Sales figures for the two models have dwindled. For the past few years, the Model S and Model X have been grouped with the Cybertruck and the electric semi-truck under the "Other" category in the company's production and delivery reports. In the first half of the year, Tesla delivered only 23,275 "Other" vehicles, while the Model 3 and Model Y saw nearly 700,000 global deliveries.
The Model S and Model X appear to be nearing the end of their run, and it seems only a matter of time before Tesla officially ceases production. With the recent launch of the three-row Model Y in China, the considerably more expensive Model X struggles to attract the average buyer, while the equally pricey Model S now caters to a niche market.
The Tesla Model S debuted in 2012, followed by the Model X three years later. Both have undergone several upgrades, but it's a long lifespan for vehicles that have remained fundamentally unchanged.
The uncertain future isn't limited to the Model S and Model X. Even in the US, despite the continued popularity of the Model Y and Model 3, Tesla sold only 6,714 Model X units in the first half of the year, a 44.9% decline. Model S sales during the same period were 2,715 units, a significant 70.3% drop compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, another American electric vehicle manufacturer, Lucid, sold over 5,000 Air sedans. Other competitors like the BMW i5 had sales of 3,333 units, the BMW i7 at 1,708 units, and the Porsche Taycan at 2,083 units.
