Truck crushes traffic cones for illegal lane change

A truck aggressively cut off a smaller vehicle, driving over traffic cones to change lanes on Do Muoi Street on 2/3.

Video: Cuong Vu

The incident involved a medium-sized truck making an aggressive lane change on Do Muoi Street in Ho Chi Minh City. The truck cut in front of a smaller vehicle traveling in the same direction, then drove directly over a solid white line and a row of traffic cones separating lanes. Its wheels crushed the cones and crossed the prohibited line, forcing other drivers to react defensively.

Solid white lines and traffic cones are crucial safety measures. They prevent vehicles from changing lanes in areas with restricted visibility, reduce merging conflicts, and help maintain safe distances between large, heavy vehicles. For trucks, which have substantial blind spots, deliberately changing lanes in prohibited zones significantly heightens the risk of accidents.

Such actions are subject to strict penalties under Decree 168/2024. Violators face a fine ranging from 3-5 million VND and a deduction of 4 points from their driver's license for driving over a fixed median or lane divider to change lanes.
