The incident occurred on a clear road with good visibility. A vehicle equipped with a dashcam was driving straight when, from a distance, a sedan parked on the roadside slowly edged its front left. The sedan then swerved across a solid yellow line to make a U-turn, directly into the path of the approaching dashcam vehicle. Fortunately, the driver of the dashcam vehicle braked in time, preventing a collision.
Drivers merging from the roadside must signal and observe before moving, only proceeding when it is safe. Cutting off a vehicle traveling straight poses a significant safety risk to both the driver and other road users. Notably, a solid yellow line absolutely prohibits vehicles from crossing it under any circumstances. According to Decree 168/2024, car drivers who cross a solid yellow line face a fine ranging from 400,000-600,000 VND. If such an action leads to an accident, the fine can increase significantly, reaching 20-22 million VND.
For the vehicle driving straight, visibility was quite good in this instance. Had the driver been more focused, they could have clearly observed and anticipated the situation from a distance, proactively reducing speed to react to the turning sedan.
