Total industry sales include data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), imported brands – 187,833 vehicles, VinFast – 115,916 vehicles, and Hyundai Thanh Cong (HTC) – 25,069 vehicles.
VinFast continued to be the main growth driver for the overall market in the first half of 2026. Compared to the same period in 2025, the Vietnamese brand's sales grew by 72.8%, more than double the industry's overall increase of 29.3%. VAMA members and imported brands also saw sales rise by 15.2%. Meanwhile, Hyundai showed positive signs after a sales decline in 2025, with sales increasing slightly by 3.6%.
VAMA, imported car brands, and HTC primarily sell gasoline and diesel vehicles. In contrast, VinFast exclusively sells electric vehicles. The sales growth from these brands and organizations indicates a stronger preference for electric vehicles in the general automobile market.
VinFast's sales in the first half of 2026 marked a record high for the company since its establishment. This also represented a record for the entire industry.
Overall, Vietnamese consumer demand for automobiles surged in the first half of 2026. However, in recent months, total industry sales have shown a downward trend, though sales volumes remain higher than in the same period of 2025.
June marked the third consecutive month of declining market sales after peaking in March. Even VinFast, the fastest-growing brand in the industry, recorded a downward trend. In June, the company sold 17,955 vehicles, a decrease of about 8% compared to May.
In the past two months, a flurry of new car launches has invigorated the market, yet not all brands have immediate delivery availability. Supply for certain models remains limited, and customer anticipation for new deliveries has somewhat curbed sales volumes.
According to a marketing and sales manager at a VAMA member brand, consumers have tended to tighten spending in recent months due to macroeconomic fluctuations and many banks restricting credit limits for car loans. This is also why the market is flooded with discounts, and new car launches are immediately accompanied by promotional programs.

Increased public investment in expanding transport and technical infrastructure boosted commercial vehicle sales significantly in the first half of 2026. For example, among VAMA members, sales for this vehicle segment reached 59,796 units, a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, passenger car sales reached 124,809 units, an increase of about 9%.
