A recent dashcam recording from a vehicle on a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania highway captured the terrifying moment a detached wheel caused a serious accident. Incidents involving wheels breaking off and flying onto roadways often result in severe damage to vehicles.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on 29/7 on I-76 highway, near Girard Avenue. A Tesla's dashcam, traveling in the same direction, recorded a large wheel suddenly bouncing over the concrete median barrier at high speed, according to WPVI.

The wheel, believed to be from a tractor-trailer, then slammed into a Nissan Rogue traveling in the lane closest to the median. The powerful impact completely deformed the front of the SUV, cracking the windshield and shattering the front bumper. Fortunately, the vehicle's structural frame absorbed the force, preventing the cabin from being crushed.

The Tesla driver informed Action News that he was unaware of the incident at the time, only hearing a loud noise behind him. He fully understood the event only after reviewing his dashcam footage.

Police are investigating the wheel's origin and the cause of its detachment from the initial vehicle. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the condition of the occupants in the Nissan.
