A fatal traffic accident occurred on 13/4 at an intersection on National Highway 13 in Lai Thieu ward. A motorcyclist attempting to make a left turn changed two lanes consecutively without checking behind. The rider then moved into the lane next to the median strip, directly into the path of a truck proceeding straight through the intersection. The truck subsequently ran over the motorcyclist, causing their death.
Preliminary investigations by authorities determined the motorcyclist's actions were the cause. These included changing direction improperly, failing to observe, not maintaining a safe distance, not reducing speed, and making an abrupt lane change across two lanes.
To prevent similar incidents, road users must exercise extreme caution. Before changing lanes or direction, it is crucial to check behind and blind spots thoroughly. This involves using rearview mirrors, turning your head to check side areas, activating turn signals to warn other vehicles, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe following distance. When making a left turn, always change lanes properly, moving one lane at a time rather than cutting across abruptly. Crucially, never turn directly in front of a truck or other large vehicle.
