The investment, scheduled for a two-year period, aims to significantly boost operational capacity and enable the port to accommodate vessels carrying up to 24,000 containers, according to Fernando Fauche, Commercial Director for APM Terminals Peru.
Beginning in November, Callao port launched new direct shipping routes from China and Korea. The MSC Alpaca service is designed to enhance trade connectivity with Asia, establishing Callao as a key transit hub in the Pacific. This weekly service links the ports of Ningbo in China and Busan in Korea directly with Callao.
"These direct routes shorten cargo transit time to Asia by up to 15 days, creating an immediate positive impact for Peru's vital economic sectors: manufacturing, retail, technology, and mining," stated Carlos Arias, CEO of APM Terminals Callao.
